The cathode carbon blocks are laid at the bottom of the aluminum electrolytic cell. They serve both as the lining material for the electrolytic cell and the cathode when the electrolytic cell is energized. They have dual purposes of being the fireproofing material (corrosion resistant) and the conducting material.

For none aluminum electrolysis purpose

1.Graphitized electrodes are used in regular electric furnace steel and ore smelting furnace industries. They are mainly used in iron and steel making, metallic silicon making and production of yellow phosphorus.

2. Medium-coarse structured graphite

A. Graphite for silicon semiconductors and silicon solar energy

Currently, silicon is still the main raw material for the semiconductor industry. Graphite products are used in large quantities during the manufacturing process of silicon. The most typical example is graphite products used in the czochralski silicon process.

B. Graphite for continuous casting of nonferrous metals

Due to merits like simplified casting process, high pass rate, even structure, etc., producing nonferrous metal sheets, tubes, bars, etc. with continuous casting and continuous rolling has been widely adopted.

Currently, this method is mainly used for producing large-sized fine copper, bronze, brass, and cupronickel. In this process, the crystallizer, which plays a key role in product quality, is made from graphite material. Graphite becomes the materials for making crystallizers because it has great performances like thermal conductivity, thermal stability, self -lubrication, anti-infiltration, and chemical inertness, etc.

C. EDM graphite

Electrical discharge machining(EDM) is a method that conducts copy processing to the work piece through direct discharging between the electrode(used as a tool) and the workpiece as per the shape and precision of the electrode by taking advantage of the high temperature and pressure produced through discharging.

Due to the following merits, graphite is considered a good material for electrosparking electrodes. Take the US for an example, from EDM rough machining to fine machining, 90% electrode materials are graphite.
